WiDi in LG TVs 2012

by: admin Monday, December 19th, 2011

LG and Intel have announced that LG’s 2012 ‘Smart TV’ becomes the first TV equipped with Intel’s WiDi technology. WiDI (Wireless Display) enables wireless transfer of video from a PC or mobile unit to a flat-screen TV. LG is ready to build WiDi into its upcoming flat-screen TVs, which enables users to wirelessly stream video content to the TV screen from other units.

Intel’s WiDi technology not only handles saved files stored on a hard drive, but can also stream all sorts of Internet content including YouTube videos or video from other services directly onto the screen via a PC, smartphone or tablet.

WiDi technology does not require a wireless router–it can create a local network directly between the device and the TV. This means that you can stream directly from your tablet to an LG Smart TV without being logged on home wireless network. WiDi can also run in the background, so that while streaming video, you can use your computer or other device for other purposes. LG’s 2012 Cinema 3DTV and Smart TV with WiDi will be unveiled at CES 2012.
