TI Pico Projector Connects via USB Only

by: admin Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Texas Instruments is a versatile company that manufactures everything from calculators to computer processors, and lately hand-held projectors – also known as pico projectors. At this year’s Mobile World Congress in Spain, they unveiled a new prototype of a pico projector that keeps up with the small and light trend and takes the whole idea a step further.

This device really puts the focus on easy by only having USB port for connectivity – everything else has been shaved off to keep it minimal. The prototype uses a USB video driver and transports both audio, video and power over the USB cable. This extremely simple plug-and-play formula is intended to make projection easier and more understandable for families and businesses that do not have lots of projector knowledge beforehand.

The projector has a brightness of 20 lumens and supports all kinds of resolutions that might be required of it. Most likely it has the latest Texas Instruments chip inside, but other details are unknown at the time. No price or launch date has been revealed yet. However, it is likely that we will see more of these simple, lightweight devices on the projector front in the near future.
